I have one MCS 7845 and about 8000 subscribers. Would it be reccomended to put all 8000 subscribers on one box. Is there any documentation out there that would talk about this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This link shows that Unity on one server can support 7500 Subscribers. Would you want to support 7500 on one server, probably not, but you can.

If you are using UM, then the Port Utilization will be less because most people check their messages in Outlook or Domino. They do not dial into the server.

If you are using Unity today, you can run a Port Utilization report to understand what is being used as of today. For instance, Unity can spit out a report on the total number ports configured and show usage by hour through out the month, day, etc. You can then average this out to figure out your port utilization per hour. If it's low, 96 ports is fine. If it's high, 96 will not cut it.

If you have a lot of call handlers, those take up port usage.

75 percent of the ports should be used for incoming voicemails/CallHandlers

25 percent should be used for MWI light on/off.

Hope this helps you out

There are Unity Design guides, but some times you have to design around the business functions and the design guidelines only play a part in the role of the actual design.

With 8000 subscribers, Unity can only support one box up to 96 voicemail ports. The ratio of voicemail ports to users will not work. If that one box went down, would you like to have 8000 subscribers with no voicemail? Probably not.

I would probably divide this into (4) separate servers, maybe even (5) to balance them out more.

If this is voicemail only, you will need to plan your Exchange store strategy also. If you have a Microsoft Exchange guru in house, they can plan on multiple stores and clustering the Exchange environment for redundancy.

If it is for UM, your Exchange is already planned, just need to allocate storage.

With 8000 in a VMO setup, you will need to look at your Domain structure. DC/GC play a big part in the replication process with Exchange. Trying to replicate that many accounts will need some horsepower and bandwidth if you separate the sites.

Sounds like a fun project though!

cheers

Thanks for the reply. This box is already in production with about 3000 subscribers. The total end amount will be 8000 subscribers. There are only 72 ports on this box. If the port to subscriber ratio is not enough for 96 then this will not be enough ports. Do you have the port to subscriber ratio.

This is UM and exchange is clustered with plenty of storage. I have expressed to higher ups that there needs to be more that one box for 8000 subscribers but I do not have any documentation to show. Any help appreciated. Thanks
