SQL server on Unity4.0(3): memory limitation needed or not?

Hi,

Our Unity system started production about 3 weeks ago and has been running without problem. However our Vivinet Manager issues alerts saying that the memory utilization on the Unity box is more than 90%. RAM size on the box is 1GB.

I searched this forum and found following useful information;

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dpass_through%26location%3Doutline%40%5E1%40%40.ee88140/0#selected_message

We also found SQL server on our CCM3.3 had been adjusted by default to limit memory usage, changing Max Server Memory option setting of SQL server, which is referred to in following information.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q321363.

Is it necessary to change the max server memory option in Unity box, as well as CCM3.3, to limit SQL server memory utilization?

Should we change Vivinet Manager not to issue alert as to memory utilization on our Unity box?

I read the MS doc you referred to and it also reads "As other processes on the same computer as SQL Server allocate memory, the SQL Server buffer manager will release memory as needed."

SQL will use as much memory as it can get it's "hands" on but will also release as needed.

Here is what you wrote - "Our Unity system started production about 3 weeks ago and has been running without problem".

It's been three weeks already and you don't have a problem so get some sleep.

Hin Ho,

I understand that you recommend changing Vivinet setting to stop observing memory usage on the Unity box.

Thank you for your advice.
