SQL warning

we have Unity404 Sr1, with failover UM, e2k3. We continously get the following msg in app log every 10 minutes:

Event Type: Warning

Event Source: CiscoUnity_NodeMgr

Event Category: Run

Event ID: 1033

Date: 8/19/2005

Time: 12:10:22 PM

User: N/A

Computer: UnityVM1

Description:

AvCsNodeMgr unable to connect to SQL Server on LocalHost. Error 0x80040000.

This appears on the primary server. Replication is working as I have tested this by adding text files in \commserver stream files folder and this gets replicated. Failover also works ok. Name resolution also working ok.

Have also done this :

Open SQL Enterprise manager, SQL Server Group.

Right click on the Server Group, select New SQL

Server Registration, and select the secondary unity server

Any advice appreciated.

Hi, can anybody help with this ?

Hin Lee

Open SQL Enterprise manager\SQL Server Group

Right-click on the Server Group, select New SQL Server Registration and selected the secondary unity server

Please let use know if you get any error messages and post them here (don't forget to check the app logs)

I suspect that you might get "Cannot generate SSPI context" and maybe a failed sql server registration.

Hi Hin,

I have tried this as I saw one of your previous threads and the secondary server registration worked ok with no reported errors.

Any other suggestions.

I am still leaning towards spn.

From the command prompt do,

setspn -l primary-unity

setspn -l secondary-unity

Compare the output of both and let us know if there is a difference.

Incidentally, what account is used to start the AvCsNodeMgr service on both servers? What is used to start the MsSqlServer and SqlServerAgent service?

(Sorry I missed the initial troubleshooting that you had registered the 2nd server on Sql Ent. Mgr.)

Hi Hin,

what do these commands actually test, they won't affect the system in anyway will they as the system in now in production. Also do we run both on the same server or on primary and then secondary?

thanks

J

Found following bug:

CSCec80854

No fix at present, cosmetic only.

Hi Hinho

Came across this thread. I had the following error message when trying to register primary sql server on 2nd server's SQL enterprise manager or try to re-run the failover wizard on 2nd server.

[0x80040000] : [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cannot generate SSPI context

The setspn output for the two servers are:

unity01 primary server

C:\Program Files\Resource Kit>setspn -L unity01

Registered ServicePrincipalNames for CN=UNITY01,OU=RMY,DC=region,DC=ca:

MSSQLSvc/unity01.region.ca:1433

SMTPSVC/UNITY01

SMTPSVC/unity01.region.ca

HOST/UNITY01

HOST/unity01.region.ca

ykr-unity01-fai failover server

C:\Program Files\Resource Kit>setspn.exe -L unity01-fai

Registered ServicePrincipalNames for CN=UNITY01-FAI,OU=RMY,DC=region,DC=ca:

HOST/UNITY01-FAI

HOST/unity01-fai.region.ca

Somebody suggested deleting the MSSQLSvc/unity01.region.ca:1433

SMTPSVC/UNITY01

SMTPSVC/unity01.region.ca

on the primary server. I am wondering what will happen if remove it?Will it stop the sql and smtp service on the primary server? Why this will help? Thanks
