Test IP Phone remotely

Hi Cisco,

Every day light saving, we ran into problems regarding setting the correct time on the IP Phones 7940/7960/7970. During outside business hours, there is no way for us to test the time on each models IP Phones are correct as we only rely on IP Communicator and this alone cause problem for us the next day. Phone users would call us stating incorrect time on the 7970, but the rest of the IP Phones are set to the correct time.

Is there a remote phone software that I can run on my PC at home (with VPN access to each cluster) that will allow me to check the times on all IP Phone models? Like having the real handset but a software base.

Thanks

There are many options:

Free:

1. You may type in the phone's IP address in a web browser.  TNP (Third Generation Phone) will show the current time on the webpage.

or

2. You may type http://ip-address-of-phone/CGI/ScreenShot.  It'll give you a picture of the current screen on the phone.

Commerical:

You may get Berbee RPC (Remote Phone Control).

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. That actually works after upgrading the load on the 7970 to SCCP70.8-5-2S and on the http://ip phone address it is now showing the time. Does this apply to 7960 and 7940 black/white phones?

Last, the http://ip-address-of-phone/CGI/ScreenShot doesn't work. I have set the device associates from my end user account in CUCM 7.1. When I load the details to a browser, it prompts me for username and password (account created above) and I get a error message

<CiscoIPPhoneError Number="4" />

Thanks again

Hi

As I recall, the URL is http://phone/CGI/Screenshot (not the second s in lower case).

Also make sure your user and password are case correct, as the phones are v sensitive to that.

I must admin I find this feature a little flakey...

Aaron

Aaron was right.  It's case sensitive.  Should be http://ip-of-the-phone/CGI/Screenshot (instead of "ScreenShot")
