Transfer Old Unity 3.1.3 Server to a separate Unity server

Is the procedure to transfer a Unity server below

adviseable? Please advise if there is a bettter way.

As much as possible I would like to have minimum service downtime .

1) Backup data/db from old unity 3.1.3 server

2) Make a new installation of Unity 3.1.3 on a new

server . Since the system key is inserted on the

old server, I'll install it as a DEMO system

3) Restore the data/db to the new server ( DEMO

system )

4) During the maintenance window, transfer the

system key from old server to new server.

5) Convert DEMO system to standard Unity system

6) Switch the old and new server ( new server will

be in production )

Additonal question:

Is it possible to restore the Unity data/SQL DB from a standard Unity server to a DEMO Unity server

Re: Transfer Old Unity 3.1.3 Server to a separate Unity server

The way you are purposing will work fine. You want use DiRT to help you with the migration.

Licensing for subscribers, etc isn't enforced during a restore so you can do it on a demo system just fine.

At some point you might want to get to a later, more stable/robust build like 3.1(6) or 4.0(3)SR1 but as far as you question goes all looks well.

Thanks,

Keith
