UC540 and connectivity to an Avaya CM using a SIP/H.323 Trunk

I am working with a customer that has a UC540 UC solution. This customer wants to connect the UC540 to an Avaya Communications Manager solution using either a SIP trunk (or H.323). They would prefer H.323 because of Avaya compatibility.

In the datasheet I found that the UC540 is SIP and H.323 compatible, but it doesn't describe how to connect this to aonther solution.

1. Can I just have the customer add the trunk and go?

2. Do I need a license or card?

3. Is there a description of how to do it anywhere?

I tried to do my research and came up with nothing in any documentation. Please any suggestions or procedures are welcome.
