unity 4.0 message store configuration error

Server1 is running DC and EXCH2000

Server2 for Unity.

I am using CUICA to installed Unity, but I am stuck on step 4: Cisco Unity 4.0 Message Store Configuration Wizard. This what I get at the last step of message store: The following error(s) have occurred

-Failed searching for Unity_ in Active Directory Global Catalog. The SVR record may be missing from the DNS table.

Re: unity 4.0 message store configuration error

Hi -

1. Is DNS running on the Server1, configured as the domain controller? If so, does Server1's DNS setting in TCP/IP point to itself or to other DNS servers in your forest? It could be that the SRV records did not get registered properly. Once you enter the correct DNS entries in TCP/IP settings at the DC, populate the zone with SRV records by stopping and starting the Netlogon service.

2. Secondly, if Server1 is the first DC in the forest, it will automatically also be the global catalog server. However, if Server1 was not the first DC in the forest, you must configure it as a GC, providing that's what you want. To verify this from your DC:

a. Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Sites and Services.

b. Double-click Sites to expand it, expand Servers, and then select your domain controller.

c. Double-click the domain controller to expand the server contents.

d. Below the server, an NTDS Settings object is displayed. Right-click the object, and then click Properties.

e. On the General tab, you can observe a global catalog check box, which should be selected, by default.

3. Something else I would check is to confirm you can ping DNS from your Unity server, as well as the DC/GC.

Here is a good Microsoft link that discusses the netdiag command which can be used to see what SRV records have been registered - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=241505

And this one too, not that you are seeing the same event records, but provides additional info on troubleshooting - http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/f4c20360-d997-4278-a9bc-32b845d561221033.mspx?mfr=true

Re: unity 4.0 message store configuration error

You may have followed the CUICA, but you have to do the schema update.

Check that your DNS is running correctly. This probably your issue. Or you may have not run the Schema update to add the Unity attributes to your Active Directory.
