UNITY 4.03 - Exchange 2003 Active/Active cluster limitations

Does anybody know if UNITY will work with an Exchange 2003 cluster in Active/Active mode?

If so, does UNITY have a bearing on the MAPI connection limitations of the Active/Active configuration and if this is the case, is there a workaround?

TIA

Yes it will work.

You will need to talk to Microsoft about the supported limits of their Active/Active clustering. Technically Unity has a single MAPI session but we do login to the mailbox of every single subscriber and stay logged in so that we can monitor for notifications. So again, you would need to check with Microsoft to see how they view our MAPI activity.

Generally Active/Passive is the preferred way of doing clustering. That way you avoid a single server having to take on the load of two Exchange servers, which will slow things down. Keep in mind that Unity requires real time access to Exchange so if MAPI response starts to slow you will notice a performance hit to Unity.

Hope this helps...

Keith,

Thanks for the reply, what would the effect of pointing the UNITY server to another server in the site, not the cluster that contains the mailboxes, would the MAPI sessions be active on that box or the server on which the recipients/subscribers are homed?

Thanks

Paul

Unity is still going to login to every users mailbox. If you have a cluster it really should be the partner server because it will have higher availability in theory.

I still would go back to Microsoft on this. Not all MAPU sessions are the same. Unity logging in to a mailbox and waiting for notifications isn't a costly operation for Exchange. Nothing like the load a functioning Outlook client places on it.
