Unity 4.1(1) upgrade to 4.2(1)

Anyone know the estimated time to upgrade? I need to set expectations for down-time with our user community.

Thanks.

If the primary is upgraded and running, it will think that it is stand alone Unity server until you run the Failover Wizard again to configure the secondary. Once you have the secondary loaded with the same version, patches, etc, go to the Primary server and run the Failover Wizard. You will however have an interuption in service will the services get in sync.

It's pretty painless. Depending on the size of your database, it's about an hour with no users, maybe less. IF you have alot of data in the SQL database, plan on longer.

Remember to pull a drive out or do a back up before you attempt any backup.

check for Unity patches, TSP updates and also Cisco/windows certified patches.

Nic Drivers, etc

Thanks. I scanned through the install docs. I do need to patch the partner Exchange 2003 servers w/ SP2.

Note that the upgrade to Unity 4.2 also requires you to extend the Active Directory Schema and run Permissions Wizard.

Got it, thanks.

Do you know in a Failover configuration if the backup Unity server will handle calls during upgrade of the primary?

no it won't, unfortunately.

Here is the text from the Unity Insatll and Upgrade doc...link is below

The failover feature cannot be used for continuing Cisco Unity service on one server while upgrading the Cisco Unity software on the other server. Both the primary and secondary servers must be out of service while the Cisco Unity software is upgraded. The secondary server cannot handle voice messaging while the primary server is being upgraded. While you do the upgrade, callers and subscribers will not be able to record or listen to voice messages. We recommend that you upgrade when phone traffic is light, for example, after business hours.

Thanks. How about once the primary is upgraded - can the primary handle calls while the secondary is being upgraded? The Cisco not above doesn't seem to mention this scenario.
