Unity 7: users want to change the TUI language

Yorick Petey

Gents,

I am implementing Unity 7.0 UM with Exchange in a multi-cultural environment. I installed 4 different languages (licensed) and set English by default.

Is there a possibility for users to change the TUI language setting by themselves?

Indeed, when they consult their voicemail box, they would like to hear their mothertongue instead of English. Is there a way for users to change this setting without a dedicated intervention of the Unity Admin, user by user?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Yorick

Hello,

Some of these setting are accessible in Cisco PCA tool to individual users to change their personal settings.

Here is the guide and section that may be relevant to you:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/5x/user/guide/assistant/ex/cuugasste050.html#wp1015021

Changing the Language in Which You Hear the Cisco Unity Conversation

This setting controls the language in which you hear the Cisco Unity  conversation. (Your Cisco Unity administrator sets the language in which  callers hear the Cisco Unity conversation.)

To Change the Language in Which You Hear the Cisco Unity Conversation

Step 1 In the Cisco Unity Assistant, from the  Preferences menu, click Phone Menu.

Step 2 In the Language list, click the language  in which you want to hear the Cisco Unity conversation.

Step 3 Scroll to the bottom of the page, and  click Save.

Here are the directions for accessing PCA also contained in the doc I sent:

Accessing the Cisco Unity Assistant Web Tool

This section contains two procedures:

To  Access the Cisco Unity Assistant

To  Access Cisco Unity Assistant Help

To Access the Cisco Unity Assistant

Step 1 Go to http:///ciscopca. (The URL is case sensitive.)

Timesaver Bookmark the Cisco PCA URL so you do not  have to enter the web address each time you want to access the  Cisco Unity Assistant web tool. (You cannot bookmark the page for the  Cisco Unity Assistant.)

Step 2 Enter your credentials:

User Name

Enter the alias for your Windows domain account. (For example, enter  tcampbell or enter tcampbell@.)

If you enter the full path for your alias (i.e. if you include the  domain), you do not need to complete the Domain field.

Password

Enter the password for your Windows domain account.

If you cannot remember your Cisco PCA password, contact your Cisco Unity  administrator for assistance.

Domain

Enter the name of the domain in which your Windows domain account  resides.

If you entered a full path for your alias in the User Name field, you do  not need to enter the domain name here.

Step 3 Under Options, check any or all of the  following fields so that you do not have to re-enter your credentials  the next time you log on to the Cisco PCA:

Remember Username

Remember Password

Remember Domain

Tip For security reasons, you may wish to  enter some or all of your Cisco PCA credentials each time you log on,  especially if you share a computer with others. (Depending on how  Cisco Unity is set up, the above options may not be available to you.)

Step 4 On the Cisco PCA Home page, click the Cisco Unity Assistant link.

Step 5 When you are ready, click Log Out in the top right corner of any Cisco Unity  Assistant page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Scott

I don't believe so.  From the following reference: https://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_configuration_example09186a00809bf3f5.shtml

The Cisco Unity Administrator provides settings for phone languages, Text to Speech (TTS), and GUI languages. Phone languages are the languages in which Cisco Unity plays system prompts to subscribers and callers.

Phone languages are the languages in which Cisco Unity can play system prompts to subscribers and callers. You specify a default phone language and other system-wide phone language settings, as well as the default Text to Speech (TTS) language, which is the language that subscribers hear when their e-mail is read to them over the phone.

For each subscriber account, you can specify the language in which system prompts are played to callers, which affects prompts such as "Record your message at the tone", and you can change the language that subscribers hear when they listen to the subscriber conversation. Note that if the class of service to which a subscriber belongs has TTS, the language you select in the Subscriber's Language field also controls the language that the TTS e-mail reader uses. Before you change the phone and TTS language for a subscriber, verify that you have the applicable languages installed.

In order to change the phone language settings for subscriber accounts, complete these steps:

  1. In the Cisco Unity Administrator, go to the Subscriber page.

  2. Complete these steps, as applicable:

    1. In order to change the phone language for callers, go to the Messages page. In the Language That Callers Hear field, select a specific language, or select Inherited.

    2. In order to change the phone language for subscribers, go to the Conversation page. In the Subscriber's Language field, select one of the languages listed.

The subscribers need to re-record their greeting(s) in the new language.

Subscribers would not have access to these settings via the TUI.

David and Scott, thank you very much for your helpful tips.  I will go to the PCA way.

It would be great if this parameter could be changed from TUI in next releases.

Best regards,

Yorick
