Re: Unity Connection Server Sizing for VM

This actually depends on version and HW platform.  The 8x solution can outscale a 7x solution due to new enhanced support for more users and parity between users and IMAP clients.

The 7825 with 8.0 is considered a Platform Overlay 1 server.  A single server supports up to 2000 users and 48 ports.

The 7835 with 8.0 is considered a Platform Overlay 2 server.  A single server supports up to 4000 users and 150 ports.

The 7845 with 8.0 is considered a Platform Overlay 3 server.  A single server supports up to 20000 users and 250 ports.

Now if you're going 7x, there is no parity between users and IMAP users.  If you go with Integrated Messaging (IMAP), your system capacity is reduced by about 25% depending on HW platform used.  Numbers for a 7x solution are:

7825 = 2000 users, 48 ports on single server with Voice Mail only.  Integrated Messaging (IMAP) drops users to 1000 and ports to 24.

7835 = 4000 users, 96 ports on single server with Voice Mail only.  Integrated Messaging (IMAP) drops users to 3000 and ports to 48.

7845 = 10000 users, 144 ports on single server with Voice Mail only.  Integrated Messaging (IMAP) drops users to 7500 and ports to 72.
