Unity & Firewall Issue (firewall drops idle connection)

Hi All,

We're in the process of implementing Unity for a security conscious customer. There's a firewall sitting between the Unity and Exchange server. We have problems with the Notify module in that after 60 minutes the authentication appears to fail and notifications fail. We've temporarily got around it by scheduling a restart of the AvNotifierMgr service every 55 minutes.

It looks like the firewall is dropping the connection after 60 minutes.

Does anyone know what the default "idle"time is on the Unity, or where this can be changed?

Has anyone seen this fault before and shed some light on a better solution than restarting services?

many thanks,

John

Re: Unity & Firewall Issue (firewall drops idle connection)

While it would not solve all of the problems, you could configure a timeout exception for the firewall (assuming it is an FWSM or ASA) to keep it from dropping the connection.

We had to do something similar for CUPS and the SIP transcations it uses.

HTH,

Doug
