Unity MWI allocation

Looking for help on finding documentation that explains the percentage of voicemail ports that should be used for MWI only.

I've read somewhere that 25% of total ports should be allocated for MWI.

I have around 1300 users/72 voicemail ports. All are set for handling incoming calls and MWI notification.Have errors in the Event log that shows collisions between inbound and MWI.

Thanks in advance

Hi Allan,

Here is the reference you were looking for:

Answer Calls

Check this check box to designate the port for answering calls. These calls can be incoming calls from unidentified callers or from subscribers. As a general guideline, set Answer Calls on approximately 75 percent of the ports.

Message Notification

Check this check box to designate the port for notifying subscribers of messages. Assign Message Notification to the least busy ports, which typically are those with the highest port numbers for the phone system. As a general guideline, set Message Notification, Dialout MWI, and TRAP Connection on approximately 25 percent of the ports.

Dialout MWI

(not used by serial or SMDI integrations)

Check this check box to designate the port for turning MWIs on and off. Assign Dialout MWI to the least busy ports, which typically are those with the highest port numbers for the phone system. As a general guideline, set Message Notification, Dialout MWI, and TRAP Connection on approximately 25 percent of the ports.

This depends on your environment and usage. The following document states:

"If the percentage of ports used does not exceed 40 percent usage during peak periods, then the number of message waiting indication ports is adequate. If the percentage of ports used exceeds 40 percent usage during peak periods, review the existing port configuration and determine if one or more additional ports can be set only to Dialout MWI."
