Unity Unified with Exchange - Changing the "From" field

We're installing Unity version 7 with Exchange 2003 in a unified configuration (the message store is the Exchange store). Our legal department has imposed some new archive and discovery requirements.

1. Voice Mail messages should NOT be archived.

2. Exception, if we have a judicial HOLD order (meaning we must archive everything for specific users for X amount of time).

We use CA Message Manager. It has three options:

1. Archive everything in the Exchange store

2. Archive nothing

3. One (and only one) system wide rule that says, don't archive messages "from X".

Since we're installing a Unified configuration, Unity (I think its Unity that does this) will hand messages to the Exchange store with a "from Bob Smith" if its a message from a subscriber on the same system.

Is there a way to over ride this and just have a generic "from" value, such as "FROM: Unity Messaging"??

This would allow us to avoid archiving anything with this "FROM" value, and only archive (all) voice messages when we get a court order.

Thank you.

well... not really. Outside caller messages (i.e. those from folks not identified as a subscriber) will comes from the generic "Unity Messaging System" mail account created for this purpose. However messages from identified subscribers (they could address it manually from within the subscriber conversation or call directly from their phone - either way will resolve to the subscriber) then the messages is created and sent from that subscribers mailbox. There is no option to force all messages regardless of source to be sent from the generic Unity messaging system account.

This wouldn't handle folks sending messages with the VMO plug in from Outlook or forwarding messages anyway - doesn't sound like the ideal archiving mechanism. Isn't SoX fun?

Does the package have the option to get messages based on message class in Exchange? If so, set the filter to IPM.Note.Voice.Unity - all voice mails regardless of source or how they were created (via the phone, via the web inbox or via the VMO plug in for Outlook) will be tagged with this class. If the desire is to exclude/include voice messages this would be the way to go.
