Unity upgrade Path

We are currently on 4.04 SR1 and are migrating to a new mail system. New exchange org, the whole bit. I see that Unity 5.0 is out now and wonder what is the most recent stable version? My plan is to build a server in paralell then use my existing license key and shut down my old 4.04 server. Anyone done this lately?

Re: Unity upgrade Path

Opps looking at Call Manager. There is no Unity 5.

Re: Unity upgrade Path

Unity 4.2.1 works great. If install to a new server, the NIC cards change, so you will need to get a new license file from TAC. If you have SmartNet, it shouldnt cost you anything.

Basic upgrade path is:

- pull a drive or make a backup or do both.

-Upgrade current Unity4.04SR1 to 4.2.1 (just pop in the DVDs and go for it)

- Install your new server, load unity 4.2.1 and all the same os patches, etc in your new domain, exchange, etc.

- DiRT export, DiRT import.

Your 4.04 server will be offline for about 2-3 hours while you upgrade the Unity software, SQL database, etc. Takes a number of reboots, etc.

Re: Unity upgrade Path

So I would upgrade my current Unity server to 4.2.1 then build the new server from scratch, load Unity 4.2.1 then overlay the DiRT from the old 4.04?

The new exchange environment is a completely different domain and is Exchange 2003 where our old one was Exchange 2000. The Aliases are different in the new Exchange environement.

Re: Unity upgrade Path

After you upgrade to 4.2.1, you will need to use DiRT to migrate the data from the old the new server. Using DiRT to migrate users is only supported with same versions of Unity. You cant go from 4.0 DiRT to 4.2 server. You must first upgrade the 4.0 to 4.2, then DiRt.

If the Alias are different, there is a tool to match this up.

Re: Unity upgrade Path

Fantastic. You have been a great help

Re: Unity upgrade Path

No problem. Your biggest challenge is to find the docs that relate to the the alias mapping. Since you are using a different alias in the new domain and Exchange 2003, The Migrate tool should walk you through this. You have to build this table to match up the old alias to the new alias, then Unity will dump the messages from the old PST to then message store account in Exchange 2003. The user will have to enter in a new PIN, but the rest should be there. (call handlers, etc)

One more doc for you:
