Unity virtualization and CPU Affinity

I have a customer that is interested in building a virtualized unity 7 configuration but is not happy about being required to run CPU affinity.

I have read the following:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/virtualization_design/guide/cuvirtualdgx.html

and

http://ciscoccvp.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/cisco-unity-virtualization/

will it work if we don't use CPU Affinity? Has Cisco begun to work on other options?

Re: Unity virtualization and CPU Affinity

Sure it will work, but not well and you will not be supported. Unity is processing *real time* voice traffic. It needs *real time* CPU access to avoid bad recordings or TUI experience.

There are other options in the works for other UC products but all of them will require resource dedication in one way or another. The customer needs to be educated that these are real-time applications. He/she cannot expect the same type of over subscription as they get with file servers.
