Is this a new install? Can you look at the app logs and post the errors during the time that you experenced the problem? What version of Unity?

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just ran into the same problem. Customer recently decommissioned a domain controller/exchange server so I'm guessing that part of the problem. Unity 4.0.4 Unified Messaging with Exchange 2003.
