Upgrading Exchange on Unity

We are running Exchange 5.5 on Unity 4.0(3). Is it possible to upgrade to Exchange 2000 / Exchange 2003 without affecting anything on Unity?

Note - Exchange 5.5 is on the same box as Unity 4.0(30, but the Unity server is a member of our company domain. i.e. AD is integrated.

Are you running unified messaging or voicemail only? If unified messaging, Exchange must be on a seperate server. If voicemail only, you can upgrade to Exchange 2000/2003. However, Exchange 2003 requires Unity 4.0(5). It might be a good time to think about upgrading Unity as well. See the Reconfiguration and Upgrade guide below for Exchange upgrade steps.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

Take a look at the following link.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/white/paper/mig/MigVM_UM.html

It referecnces Unity 3.1, but the concepts apply to later versions as well.

Hope this helps.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks a ton for this excellent doc. Really helps a lot!

We are running Unity only, but have plans to upgrade to Unified Messaging in the near future. Is there any doc that lists all the steps necessary to move from a "Voice Mail only" configuration to Unified Messaging"? Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Abhijit Das.
