VIC-4FXS/DID with analog phones installed

Hi,

l configured the router 2801 with the VIC-4FXS/DID on slot 0, but the two analog phone that l attached to it did not ring nor did it bring a dailled tone. The CUCM 8.0(2) is working with the 3 IP Phones that was installed into the network. The 3 IP Phones was registed automatically when it was plug into the socket and they calling each other which was supplied by the CUCM. I am woundering why the analog phones that l plug into the vic-4FXS/DID it did not ring. The devices that l used were Cisco router 2801, switch 2950, a stand alone computer for the CUCM, 3 IP Phones and two analog phones.

Well for starters I don't see the voice-ports in the running configuration. Does a 'show inventory' show the card installed at all and in subslot 0?

You're totally fine to configure the VIC in CUCM since this is a MGCP gateway with the ccm-manager config comman present. CUCM will push the appropriate configuration to the router.

What stands out at me from your running config is the total absense of the voice-ports. These should appear automatically if the VIC card is online; regardless of your CUCM configuration. Their absense suggests that the card is either missing from IOS's perspective (e.g. defective); or, you have insufficient DSPs to perform voice termination for the ports. Get the voice-ports 0/0/0-3 to show up in the configuration before turning your attention to CUCM.

The show inventory indicates that your router does not have any DSPs (PVDM2-XX) and therefor will never enable the VIC card. You need to order DSPs and install them in the PVDM2 slots on the motherboard before continuing. The DSP Calculator will help you understand what part numbers you need.

Hi Jonathan,

I did not configure the voice port on the gateway but l enabled it on the CUCM it's self. Do l need to configure voice port on the router which is the gateway too? Because l thought everything must be centralized on the CUCM. I will do that and l will get back in touch with you Jonathan. And l will like to ask you what do you do you think with my configuration. Anymore config should l add on it pls.

Thanks for your help

Hi Jonathan,

U are a star. The light lit up when l plugged the card into the router 2801 and l think that is an indication that is working if am right. Like you said earlier, l will do show voice-ports 0/0/0-3 config to see if the port will show up as you said. I will let you see the config when it done.

Thanks a million

Hi Jonathan,

am having a problem of how to configure the voice port. I try to use the voice port config but it is rejecting it. I don't mind if you can put a config which l can use for this port pls.
