Wrong MAC Addresse when Install Call Manager License

Hi,

I have installed a Call Manager on a 7825. It is the first node.

So I've two Ethernet ports. But when I get the licence from Cisco, I've given the second NIC Mac Adress instead of the first. So I got the wrong licence from Cisco.

Can someone help me to resolve this issue.

Many Thanks.

Re: Wrong MAC Addresse when Install Call Manager License

Hi Solo,

This should be fairly easy to change :) I would send an email to;

licensing@cisco.com

with all the pertinant information from the Licensing that came with the wrong Mac. Let them know that the same license needs to be re-issued with the proper mac. They should send you the new license file via email quite quickly.

You might also try this method (but I would try plan A first);

Transferring License Files

When the first node fails on the Cisco CallManager and a new node is configured as the first node, the license files need to be transferred to the new node.

Two scenarios might occur:

Scenario 1

The customer has already obtained the license file, but has not yet uploaded it to the license manager.

Solution Generate a new license file with the same license information but with a new MAC address.

Obtaining a License File

Use the following steps to obtain a license file for a new installation of Cisco CallManager 5.0 phones nodes and for updating the licenses when new phones are added.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 When you place an order for Cisco devices, Cisco provides a Product Authorization Key (PAK).

Step 2 Register the PAK with Cisco CallManager using the License Registration web tool that is provided on CCO.

Step 3 You must enter the MAC address of the Cisco CallManager server that you are requesting the licenses for, and a valid E-mail Id. You must enter the number of nodes and phone units that you want licenses for.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note You can determine the number of phone unit licenses that you will require for each phone type using License Calculator in Cisco CallManager Administration. See the "Calculating License Units" section.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4 CCO generates a license file with the number of unit licenses that you requested and sends it you via E-mail using the E-mail ID that you provided in step Step 2

Step 5 You must upload the license file to the server with the matching MAC address that you provided in Step 3

Re: Wrong MAC Addresse when Install Call Manager License

Hi -

For your consideration and confirmation to ensure your hardware meets the requirements of this link - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/voiceapp/ps378/prod_installation_guide09186a00803a0032.html

If you have two NICS in a team, you can assign the MAC address to the team which matches your license key. That being said, Rob has provided an excellent step-by-step process to communicate with Cisco Licensing. I have also done something similar when I had a NIC fail on a server and Licensing sent me updated license files to match the replacement NIC. They should be able to send you in the same day.

Regards, Ginger

P.S. 5-points to Rob for his indepth response :-)

Re: Wrong MAC Addresse when Install Call Manager License

Hi,

Thank you Rob for your answser.

We've resolve the problem with th Cisco TAC too.

And now I encounter a new problem. I can't upload a second license which will be for th Subsriber Server.

When I upload the Licence into the Subsriber, it says that the license cannot be upload in it. but must be uploaded into the Publisher Server. but I've already got the licence from Cisco with the Subscriber's MAC Adress.

How can I do?

Thks

Re: Wrong MAC Addresse when Install Call Manager License

Hi Solo,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! The License will need to be re-homed (by Cisco Licensing) to reflect the Publisher Mac)instead of the Subscriber Mac;

The Node License Manager is the Publisher so it is the MAC Address that you provide for any licensing additions/requirements;

Licenses are generated for requested Cisco CallManager nodes (servers in a Cisco CallManager cluster - with seats) and the phones that are associated with those nodes.

Uploading a License file

Use the following procedure to upload a license file to the Cisco CallManager server with the matching MAC address that is provided when requesting for a license file. For information about obtaining a license file see the "Obtaining a License File" section. The Cisco CallManager server where the license file is loaded takes on the functionality of the license manager.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

***Note - Upload the license file only on the first node of Cisco CallManager cluster.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Procedure

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 Choose System > License > Upload License File.

The License File Upload window displays.

Step 2 The Existing License Files drop-down list box displays the license files that are already uploaded to the server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note Click View File to view the file content of any existing files.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 To choose a new license file to upload, click Upload License File.

The Upload File pop-up window displays.

Step 4 Browse and choose a license file to upload to the server.

Step 5 Click Upload License File.

After the upload process is complete, the Upload Result file displays.

Step 6 Click Close.

Step 7 In the License File Upload window, the status of the uploaded file displays.

From this good doc:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a0080530f9b.html

The Cisco CallManager server where the license file is loaded, assumes the functionality of a license manager.

The license manager serves as the logical component that keeps track of the licenses that the customer purchases and the licenses that customer uses. It refers to the processes that control the checkin and checkout of the licenses. It keeps track of the number of license units that are required for each phone type. The license manager has responsibility for issuing and reclaiming licenses, and detecting whether there is an overdraft of licenses.

Hope this helps!
