There are two VSMs and four VEMs on ESXi 5.1 servers. They are all the same version,Release 4.2(1)SV2(1.1a).

I want to add two two ESXi 5.5 servers.

Can I just install Release 4.2(1)SV2(2.1a) on two ESXi 5.5 server, then add two VEMs with release 4.2(1)SV2(2.1a)

to VSM with release 4.2(1)SV2(1.1a)?

or I have to upgrade my VSMs to Release 4.2(1)SV2(2.1a)?

Hello,

VSM needs to be upgraded as well.

A 4.2(1)SV2(1.1a) VSM would be able to talk to a 4.2(1)SV2(1.1a) VEM, but not the other way around. You'll see a message in the log saying that the VEM is not backward compatible.

Thanks,

Shankar

I want to add two two ESXi 5.5 servers.

If I upgrade VSM to release 4.2(1)SV2(2.1a) and keep four VEMs with release 4.2(1)SV2(1.1a).

Can they work fine?
