I have a client who has purchased C Class Servers with VIC1225 cards and Nexus 5548UP switches but just has the base license. I'm unable to establish whether Adaptor-FEX can be used or not given the specifications suggest it bundles up everything to FCoE.
Doe's anyone have a definative answer for this?

Hello Paul,
Adapter FEX does not require license.

---------- snip ----------
Verify Licensing Requirements
No A-FEX license is required for A-FEX to function.
If using FC or FCoE, make sure the appropriate license is installed.
If you are using the Layer 3 card, make sure to install the BASE license.

If you are planning to use VM-FEX, then VMFEX license is required
