Booting from iSCSI SAN

Let's say I have a diskless blade I want to install ESXi 4.1 on, and an iSCSI storage array plugged in to my northbound ethernet switches. Can I use boot from SAN in this scenario to boot from iSCSI? I can't quite seem to find anything definitive either way.

If it is possible are there any restrictions on the type of mezz card the blade would need? Ideally we would use the VIC adapter but again I can't find any detail on whether or not this is possible. Is there a resource anywhere that lists the iSCSI capabilities of the different adapters?

Cheers,

Simon

the iSCSI support list would look like this today:

-----

none

-----

SAN boot today is FibreChannel only but i heard iSCSI is on the roadmap.

PXE boot for ESX works fine and i know quite a few customers who are using it (but officially this is unsupported by VMWare)

regards,

Michael
