Cisco UCS C220 M3 Rack Server NTP/Timezone? M Port Speed/Duplex?

Rob Cluett

All, have aprox 100 C220's deployed and need to setup NTP and hardcode speed/duplex on the management port (assuming it's set to autoneg). Can anyone advise how this is to happen as I don't see anything readily available in CIMC GUI or CLI. Any docs I've seen and suggested commands aren't available from the CLI. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi,

I bet you are asking about how to set up NTP for the Server and not for the VMs, for the server itself the feature of having NTP is added in release  1.5.1, see here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/OL-28995-01.html  << << Under "Supported Features in Release 1.5(1)"

Supported Features in Release 1.5(1)  The following new software features are supported in Release 1.5(1):

•CIMC NTP support

Prior to that, time is only taken from BIOS.

Here your option is to upgrade to CIMC 1.5 where the tab yor are missing will appear as the link Chris pasted shows; HUU is your option, here the guide in case you have not done it before:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/lomug/1.5.x/b_huu_1_5_chapter_01.html

If it help, please rate it

Hi 2rcluett,

Here are the details to set up NTP via GUI. Assuming that your servers may be running 1.5 CIMC version.

Network Time Protocol Settings

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/gui/config/guide/1.5/b_Cisco_UCS_C-series_GUI_Configuration_Guide.151_chapter_01000.html#task_F2A87D462FA6409F8597D2BA583741A3

You must enable and configure the NTP service by specifying the IP/DNS address of at least one server or a maximum of four servers that function as NTP servers or time source servers.

For the management port, the speed used is 100MB even if you use LOM PORTS of 1GB or 10GB on some servers.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply Chris. I saw that same guide and scratched my head because I don't have an NTP tab or option as they've advised.

Hi,

I also suggest to check => Hardware and Software Interoperability Matrix Utility Tool for C Series rack mount servers if you are planning to upgrade to 1.5. So that you can verify the right drivers for your OS based on the new firmware version.
