not able to activate the BIOS firmware from 2.1(3a) to 2.1(3b)

Hi All,

Did an upgrade from 2.1(3a) to 2.1(3b) , every component is upgraded to 2.1(3b) , except for the bios version.

Am not able to view the package anywhere.. not in equipment>firmware mgmt> packages nor in the host firmware package > bios policy

Would this be an unstable environment with all the components in 2.1(3b) except for blade BIOS in 2.1(3a) ?

Hi Shyam,

It's very weird. Which versions do you see available?

Please note that you will not see BIOS version 2.1(3b). For example if you want to activate the Bios version for a UCS B200 M3 that bundle will show you 2.1 3a.

Unified Computing System (UCS) Server Software (B-Series) for 2.1(3b)

•ucs-b200-m2-bios.S5500.2.1.3.0.081620131102.bin

•ucs-b200-m3-bios.B200M3.2.1.3a.0.082320131800.bin

•ucs-b22-m3-bios.B22M3.2.1.3a.0.082320131814.bin

Hi Shyam,

That't correct.

For the UCS B200 M3 the BIOS version is 2.1.3a.

Hi Shyam,

It appears that you are trying to activate the BIOS version from the wrong place, meaning from the Management firmware tab.

Some firmware packages can be updated only in a firmware package that is attached to a service profile.

These devices cannot be directly updated in the Cisco UCS Manager GUI or CLI interface:

– BIOS

– RAID controller – HBA

– HBA option ROM

I know there is option where the BIOS images can be updated in Cisco UCS Manager via Recover Corrupted BIOS, but this option should not be used if the BIOS is bootable. This is not a valid BIOS upgrade option.

To update the BIOS version please use Host and management firmware packages. Go to > Servers, tab under Policies > Bios firmware policies and verify this policy is attached to your service profile.

Chris,

Thanks for the reply, Cristian,

I understand what you are trying to tell. The problem am facing is that, I am unable to select the latest BIOS package in host firmware package> Advanced> BIOS ..though I have the b series bundle 2.1(3b) downloaded and updated.
