Single wire management C220-M3

we had to remove a C220-M3 from UCS FI, to upgrade CIMC to V1.3.5.d (to resolve the problem, installing W2012 and W2012 R2 on a MegaRaid embedded controller)

thereafter, we changed bios setting back to Shared-LOM-Ext (unfortunately we didn't do a factory reset)

After C220-M3 is again in UCSM and a SP is associated we get

It seems that there is an issue with fabric b; if I move vnics from fabric b to a, the error is gone ?

Walter,

If the connection's are showing in the connection path and connection status and with the limited number of vNICs you are showing here there is something unusual happening.  You may try a decom/recom and see if that helps.  If not, I would recommend that you open a case with TAC so that we can collect the appropriate information and help you resolve the issue.

Walter,

I ran across something similar in the lab yesterday.  A few questions.

1.) Was this SP working on this server before you upgraded the Firmware?

2.) In the Equipment Tab, Server x, General Tab, Connection details, what does your connection look like.

3.) What type of FI do you have (61xx or 62xx)?

4.) How many uplinks between the FEX and the FI?

5.) How many vnics/vhbas does the SP have?

Hi Steve

1.) Was this SP working on this server before you upgraded the Firmware?

No, we wanted to install W2012 resp W2012 R2 on the local disk (raid-1) which didn't work; therefore we moved to standalone, using HUU to upgrade CIMC... to 1.5.3.d

2.) In the Equipment Tab, Server x, General Tab, Connection details, what does your connection look like.

Exactly this picture

3.) What type of FI do you have (61xx or 62xx)?

6248

4.) How many uplinks between the FEX and the FI?

4, port-channel

5.) How many vnics/vhbas does the SP have?

only 2 vnics ! no vhba's

Cheers Walter.

Hi Steve

decom/recom solved the problem !

Thanks Walter.

Followup question: If one configures a Raid-1 in standalone mode; then do CIMC factory reset for reconnecting again to FEX and UCSM: will the Raid-1 configuration be destroyed ???

Not if you use Any Config for the local disk policy.  In theory a RAID 1 should not destroy it either, but you limit your ability to add other volumes if you want to do so in the future.  Recomendation for C-Series where you may want to have multiple volumes would be any config.  It's also advisable to use Protect Configuration for all service profiles that you may attach to a server with locally configured RAID volumes to prevent UCSM from reconfiguring the volumes.
