New IP-IP gateway feature

Hi,

Has anybody tried this new feature with video, not only with voice? It would be very good to have something like this for video because h323 proxy does not have enough flexibility in terms of separating video networks between different companies with their own e164 dial plans. Cisco MCM does not provide any e164 number translation options without external application (Cisco GK API).

Thanks

Im not sure how you would apply this feature with VIdeo. THe concept of the IP-IP gateway was introduced for terminating signalling on the gateway and forwarding it over on another ip leg. For video the signalling is a bit differnt and cannot terminate on a voice gateway as far as i know and must terminate on a video gateway, even if it is a video ip ip gateway. So im guessing this is not going to work for you, for video.

IOS support H323 proxy which terminates the H323 video traffic. The gateway is essentially a proxy plus it handles the H323 H225 signalling (q931) to switch the voice (video?) traffic via dial-peers. I'm not sure if H323 proxy goes as deep as H261/H263 video encoding, may be it stops just on RTP level?

The IP-IP gateway you are referring to will be released later this year and will provide many new features such as: 12.3(X)T

1. Digit Manipulation:

2. Enhance Billing:

3. Support for multiple zones (current proxy can only service the zone it is registered with, the new IP-IP gateway can reside in a via zone and service multiple zones)

4. Support RSVP sync.

5. Allow intra and inter zone calls to use the gateway

One thing to keep in mind is that the new IP-IP gateway can't reside on the same router as your gatekeeper. This will be addressed in a following release.

Thanks for info
