I am going to be using POE cctv cameras. I will be using the 3750 switch and wanted to know if the POE supplied by the switch has any built in surge protection. My customer requires surge protection, but i am unsure if it would be needed as the only connection to power and video is over ip. Any advice would help
You should protect your switches from surges from the power source using appropriate equipment as elsewhere...
I guess you mean power surges from outside (i.e. lightning etc?)? In this case the manufacturer of the cameras probably provides some guidelines similar to those for wireless antennae mounted externally... Some form of lightning arrestor may be available.
