ATA 186 2nd port not working?

I am trying to config an ATA 186 device, and have CCM 4.1(3), my issue is that I can get the 1st port to work, but not the second one. I get dial tone on both, but only the 1st port can dial to another phone except port 2. Both show up in CCM as being registered with same IP, MAC set to cisco recommended (shift to right drop left two numbers/characters for the second port). Connected via 35xx cat. Different DN's assigned to both ports (x1018 port 1, and x1019 port 2). Created the 2nd port by coping the 1st in CCM. I can get to the Web page and everything looks good. Am I missing something? Thx for any help in advanced.

Hi!

Which codec do you use? If I remember correctly, ATA186 can support both ports only using G711 codec. With g729, only one port can be used.

Re: ATA 186 2nd port not working?

I am in the Army and we work with VOIP networks. I had this same problem. After many hours of troubleshooting I found out I could call anywhere off both lines if it stayed on the VOIP network. Once I tried to call accross a PSTN network only one port would work. After many hours of research I found out that it is probably a CODEC issue. If you research the ATA you will see that there are not the same codecs available for both ports. You can configure the ATA to have more codecs available on either port but not both. So both ports will be able to dial anywhere as long as it stays on the VOIP network. You can only have one port have the ability to dial across the PSTN.

Re: ATA 186 2nd port not working?

Perfect. The codec I found on the phones was g729 which I thought was g711 (default), looks like it was changed. The network is small enough that we don't need to use g729 codec. So I changed the codec back to the default g711 (warning all devices connected to the CCM Server will have to restart) and now the 2nd port on the ATA 186 is working like a champ.

Notes: The only option on the ATA device was IVR menu and selecting #300 then entering the value of 0 or 3 (default) which is why it only worked on port 1 (phone) and not the 2nd port. thx all for your help.
