Connecting two Cisco ATA-186/ATA-188

We are looking for less expensive ways of configurating VoIP over point to point wireless WAN links (using economical Cisco Linksys equipment).

One idea was to use Cisco ATA-186 adapters at each point of a PTP wireless link to allow communication between two telephone sets.

We have installed the ATA-186 adapters with at one multiservice router, but we don't know if two (or more) ATA-186 can be configurated to work without the multiservice router.

Does someone knows positively if this configuration can work well?

Yes two ATAs can be connected back to back. Follow these steps to configure them back to back.

1) Set the GKOrProxy to 0

2) Set the IPDialPlan to 1

3) Configure the ATAs with fixed IP addresses.

4) Calling one phone to another, dial directly the "IP address" of the called party. Dialing "IP address" is normally not convenient due to the number of digits involved; so use a analog phone that has a programmable speed dials.

5) Without a GateKeeper there is no Admission Control\Bandwidth allocation for calls.

6) To access the ports one on ATA 186 which has the IP address as 192.168.1.52 and UID0, UID1 as 65666, 65667

Dial 192*168*1*52*65666# for port 0

Dial 192*168*1*52*65667# for port 1

Thank you for the information. It seems a little bit difficult to dial so many numbers.

Do you know if it's possible, and easier to connect two Cisco IP phones (without other additional equipment) over IP wireless LAN instead of using Cisco ATA's and conventional phones?
