cRTP used to compress the IP/UDP/RTP header from 40bytes to 2-4 byts.

Lets take a senario

CE1-R-R-R-R-CE2

1. now crtp hs been enabled on CE1 and CE2. How will R come to know that ip address of the destination(IP headder is compressed).

2. Or should crtp hs to be enabled on all the routers including all Rs???

plz clarify.

thx

Hi,

CRTP is supported on/and should be enabled on a point ot point basic i.e. between CE1 and R, and betwenn each R-to-R links and finally between R-CE2. This would mean you'll go between series of compresson and decompression as you travell through the intermediate router links.

If R-R-R-R and layer 3 link then the statement above is through but if they are layer 2 wan link i.e. a frame-relay or ATM wan switch then you need only enable CRTP between CE1 and CE2 as wan switch is done with the Frame-relay frame header or ATM Cell header.

Hope it helps

Regards

Tola.
