Ericsson MX-ONE IP Phone Registration

We have a customer who is deploying an Ericsson IPT solution. The Core Cat6509 switch has a Sup720. At this time we have the ip phones in a vlan & the IPT switch in another vlan & just mrouting between 2 vlans on the Cat6509. The phones are having a problem with registration to the Gatekeeper cards on the other vlan using mcast routing. We have proved that mcast routing is working, with another application, using pim sparse-mode. My knowledge of multicast is not very strong, but i believe that the problem is that the ericsson gatekeeper cards do not advertise the group address (224.0.1.41). Has anyone got experience with this kit, do you know how to overcome this?

What is actually the problem ?

The gatekeeper rejects the authentication request of the IP phones or the IP phones can not get a GCF back from the gatekeeper (IPT switch)?

In my opinion, a good way to troubleshoot the issue is to use some Hub (no, not a switch, exactly a hub), plug there one of the IP phones and a PC with a protocol analyzer (Ethereal in example, the new name is FireShark) and to trace the H323 PDU exchange.

You will see the GRQ / GCF messages and you can pass them here to check.

The actual problem is that the phones do not register with the GK cards in their boot up sequence. According to the integrator of the Ericsson system, the GK cards do not advertise the group address of 224.0.1.41. The IP phones are sending a join message to the RP, so it has an mroute entry. However the group address entry has an outgoing interface entry, but NO incoming interface entry. How do we overcome this ?

Hi,

We have the same problem. What we have found out is that the switch only brodcast/multicast the registration packet every 15 minutes.

The packets is sent to the "core" switch from access switch(cat3560). If we monitor the trunk port from the access switch(3560)we can see the packets. It seems that the packets "disapper" in the core switch.

Have you been able to resolve thsi problem yet ?

No, We don't know if it's a config issue or if it's a bug. We have some trouble shouting going on.

Hi,

try this command on voip vlan interface.

no ip igmp snooping

This issue has been resolved by an upgrade of firmware to the Ericsson GK cards.

The Mcat routing was working all along.
