how do i get the IP address of the Machine

suppose i connected one ip phone to the switch and one machin to that ip phone. i know only the MAC Address of the IP phone and i want to know the IP address of the system which is connected to the IP phone with the help of command on switch.... is thr any command on switch

Hi awdhoot_t,

In the switch, use the command:

Switch# sh mac-address-table interface

where is the switchport where you plug the IP Phone.

Then you can use sh arp.

show mac- | i aaaa.aaaa.aaaa

Use mac address in lower case form.

Then if your output is similar to this:

232 000d.290b.e3af DYNAMIC Fa0/21

Do a 'show mac- | i Fa0/21'

This will tell you the other MAC on the port. Sh arp will not because it's a layer 3 command.
