QoS Precedence over high circuit utilization

If I am using data and voice over the same transport i.e T1 and I configure priority for voice traffic on router. What if I am congesting the link by sending huge amount of data (i.e congesting the link by uploading/downloading 1.3 mbps) does it really have any adverse effect on voice quality? Does the voice traffic still able to take precedence over data?

Please help me with this query.

Re: QoS Precedence over high circuit utilization

Hi,

as long as the bandwidth for all combined voip calls is smaller than the configured bandwidth "priority XXX", VoIp is ok.

The reason is, that any voip packet will be serviced immediately and the data will be queued. So for voip the network looks like not being overloaded at all.

Hope this helps! please rate all posts.

Re: QoS Precedence over high circuit utilization

Also if you can help me with this,

ip vrf voice

rd 4:1

route-target export 4:1

route-target import 4:1

Correct me if I am wrong. This command is used for traffic shaping in frame relay circuit. What's the significance of this command and how does it prioritize the voice traffic
