Hi,
I have an AS5400 router and it sends voice traffic to "provider E". There are 16 T1 circuits (6/0 - 6/7 and 7/0 - 7/7) to "provider E". The config is
R1
dial-peer voice 44001 pots
description, provider E, 6/0
destination-pattern 44.
direct-inward-dial
port 6/0:D
If the destination is invalid, the router will keep on trying to another T1 circuits. detail pls see the log. How do I configure the router so that it retry 2 or 3 times only? any sample config? thanks

You use trunk-group for that.
voice-port 6/0:D
trunk-group prov-E
(repeat for all t1s)
dial-peer voice xxx pots
trunkgroup prov-E
Then under "trunk group prov-E" you can configure different hunting methods.

Hi,
Does it mean that the call re-try base on "trunk group", not per each trunk?
Any document regarding the "trunk group" setting?

It should re-hunt for each trunk member.
That is done only on certain failure causes however.
As the usual, the official document is the "IOS command reference".

Hi, considering the information I gave is 100% correct, I think the low rating given to my post is quite unfair. Not to mention the many times you've asked similar question always receiving timely responses.
While hoping you attitude toward professionals will improve, which you good luck.
