Hi,

to keep one Point in mind will not help...

There are many factors and no "One fits all" solution. So in general: know your requirements, know your constraints, keep an eye on budget and do not forget to get early enough the proper skill level for your staff to operate the solution.

Best starting point for technology related information would be to read through the "Cisco IP Telephony Solution Reference Network Design" guides.

Examples:

Cisco IP Telephony Solution Reference Network Design (SRND) for Cisco CallManager 4.0 and 4.1

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_implementation_design_guide_book09186a00805fdb7b.html

MeetingPlace 5.3 Solution Reference Network Design (SRND)

More can be found at

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

Thanks for your prompt reply and those pointer... which will go a long way towards designing...

But still the major part of my Query is still left out..

Is the Cisco solution is the best and viable solution in the market?

And what one consider while selecting protocol either H.323 or SIP or MGCP or SCCP, for VoIP setup.

Thanks & Regards,

Hey,

The other reply was true also. There are many factors to consider when choosing the best VOIP solution/configuration.

My company has VOIP. There are many issues to consider with which protocols to use, etc. Keep in mind that some protocols work best in some configurations/situations.

Our company uses H323 and MGCP. H323 is good if you have a remote location and do not have the money to deploy a separate Call Manager and/or Unity. We are using H323 at the remote locations. H323 requires a lot more configuration on the router side. MGCP requires less configuration on the router and more on the call manager. Pros and Cons everywhere.

As far as integrating VOIP with an existing PBX. I have been to a couple of seminars and everyone seems to have a nightmare story with this combination. Our systems work somewhat together, but not that great. Of course, this is cheaper than implementing VOIP company-wide.

Look into SRST (Survivable Remote Site Telephony). This is cool! I can go into more details, but you can read it all at Cisco.com
