I m having some trouble with the SPA504G IP Phone.
As new phone, I plugged the phone to our poe switch, having TFTP and DHCP on a GNU/Linux BOX, everything was perfect, as usual with the SPA942 Phones (we have used this phones many times), the phone is asking for spa504g.cfg via TFTP. Good thing :)
But ... before having this file and spa-$MAC.cfg file ready, the phone is now in SCCP mode, asking via tftp to XMLDefault504G.xml, like the Cisco IP PHONE 7xxx series, then for the SEPXXXXX . Its in SCCP Mode.
So, I have try this:
-Factory reset: not successfull, the telephone still asking for the XMLDefault, not for the spa504.cfg.
-Try to factory reset using the # method (like in 7xxx series): not sucessfull
-Try to change the SCCP Signalling mode to SIP using the menu on phone: The menu is know "read-only", i can only do factory reset, i cannot change ip address, signalling, the only thing I can do is factory-reset.
Any idea how can i change this phone again to SIP Mode ? I have read the zero-touch tutorial and have not found information about this, and back to the spa504g.cfg provisioning mode ... ?
-If I remove the file XMLDefault.cnf.xml from my tftp server root directory, the phone SPA504G now is working in SIP mode, asking for spa504G.cfg, then for the specific -mac.cfg config file with the custom sip proxy, user id, password ...
So, the phone is now working well, and the Cisco IP PHONE 7942 on the same network, that usually reads the XMLDefault.cnf.xml, still working if not found this file.
I will make some more investigation on that issue and write back here.
