DND Status

We have a UC 520 which is running version 8 and the phone are fully updated with the latest version phoneloads.

Our users need to be able to see the DND status of the other IP phones when they make a call, this works fine on an internal IP phone to IP phone call as the calling phone display Ring out DND when the called phone is in DND state. But if the caller receives an external call and wants to transfer the call to a IP phone which is in DND state it does not show the Ring out DND message on the calling phone. The user has to wait untill the call drops to voicemail before they realise the IP phone is in DND and they then have to recover the call and ask the external caller if they wish to speak with someone else.

Is this normal or can the system be configured so transferred calls show the DND state on the calling IP phone?

No option to show the phone transfering a call that the target is in DND....

You can assign spare buttons on a IP Phone or side car, 7915/16 or SPA500S for watch mode.
Watch mode should show DND on along with busy or idle status.

You have to setup SIP based presence within UC500/CME though, directions are here;

CLI required, and limited support from SB Support Center on this feature, as CCA does not support it.
