No internet connection UC500

We have just recieved our UC500 (48 user, 6 BRI), CE520, Wirless Controller, Access Points and Phones (7962g). We changed the default IP address on the UC 500 from 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.0.3 and deleted the DHCP settings as we have a DHCP server, we also gave the 2 switches the follwoing IP addresses 192.168.0.8 and 192.168.0.9 (Note: will also have a HP Procure G Switch with the IP address 192.168.0.10). When connected to our network everything works fine (Phones, Shared Folders, Remote Desktop, Recieving\Making calls ext.) except our internet connection. When the UC500 is connected to the network there is no internet connection. We have tried configuring the internet router to work through the WAN port on the UC500 and tried to get the internet working by plugging it directly into the CE520. When the UC500 is unplugged the internet works fine as soon as we connect it we are unable to connect to the internet, in fact we cannot even ping the internet router. Has anyone ever had this problem or does anyone know what we can do to rosolve it?

Re: No internet connection UC500

Did you use CCA or CLI to make the changes?  There are a few settings relating to NAT and firewall that also need to change when you change subnets that are easy to overlook when using CLI.

Cheers,

Dave.

Re: No internet connection UC500

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the speedy response.

We used CCA, before we changed the IP address we also deleted the firewall and NAT settings before we changed the IP address.

Re: No internet connection UC500

Did you recreate the NAT and Firewall settings after you made the change?  If not, then that is likely to be your problem, since the private IP ranges are not routable across the Internet.

Or is the UC500 not connected to the WAN but rather behind another router or firewall?  If so, then mostly there is a routing problem.  Check all the devices along the path between the PCs and the Internet and make sure that each have route pointing both to the Internet and back to the 192.168.0.0 network via the correct next hops.  Traceroute is a good tool that runs on most PCs and network devices that can help you here.

Cheers,

Dave.

Re: No internet connection UC500

Hi Dave,

Sorry for the late response have had some major issues to deal with, we have had to reset the UC500 to its original defaults as none of the GUI were working. It is now up and running with the latest version 7.0.3.

I was wondering if there is a way to leave it on the default address 192.168.10.1 and get it to route between our address range 192.168.0.1, does the UC500 support this cause it seems that when you change the default address you open up a whole other can of worms?

Marcph -

A few questions here..  I change the default subnets all the time..  It isn't that hard to do... but does need some work.  It seems like NAT is not working.  Did you apply the NAT and firewall settings again, after the subnet change?

What are you using for a firewall right now without the UC500 in place?  Are your plans to use the UC500 as the firewall?  Because it does not need to be the firewall..

To keep the other subnet you would have to create a 3rd VLAN and use the UC500 to route between the networks...  the 3rd VLAN would match the other sunbet you have.

Re: No internet connection UC500

ps) the GUI requires a few things.  One the command in the CLI ip "http path flash:/gui" needs to be there and in the correct spot.  The new IOS changes where it has stored these files and you have to make sure that command is set...  Also make sure the upgrade actually worked fully.  I have ran into 2 upgrades in the last week that the TFTP of the phone loads, were not complete on the latest code..  So the phones would not get any firmware to download and I had to do it manually.. even though it said successful.  Make sure there are files under the flash:gui\ folder.
