Secondary Dialtone issue UC540 and Polycom IP 5000 SIP

After days of painfully trying to configure a polycom ip 500 to work with our UC540 PBX I finally got it to work with 1 minor hangup.  I cannot for the life of me get the secondary dial tone to work for the polycom phone.  I can work around this by dialing 9 and the number BEFORE I pick up the handset.  This is fine except I am unable to transfer a call to an outside line because you don't get the option to dial first then press send, you get the dial tone right away.  Our other phones work fine (they are Cisco 7940) with the secondary dial tone.


Has any one dealt with this before?  I can't imagine it being something too difficult, but then again, I could be wrong
