According to this document: https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9694 the max number of users on my

UC520W-8U-4FXO-K9 should be 16. Below  is the output from show tech on the device. We have 22 registered phones. We need to add 16 new phones, is that possible? Do we have to buy a new UCS? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The unit has under gone a 8 user upgrade already,  since the base unit is a UC520W-8U-4FXO.

8U stands for a base 8 User license.

So the licensing on your current unit  is ;

  • 16 user licenses
  • 4 supplimentary  users licenses for integrated FXS phones
  • 2 supplimentary  users licences for maybe IP communicator

--------------

total 22 phones  as seen on your command 'show tech'

-------------

Total phones supported on UC520 with 16 user licenses is then 22 phones.

UC520W-8U-4FX0  will not support 38 phones.

I would suggest you have a chat to your Cisco partner to take advantage of possible programs to migrate you to a UC560.

Here is a extract from the URL mentioned below as seen as table 4..

Phones supported on a UC560 platform , reference URL  ;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps7293/reference_guide_c07-566560.html

Table 4. Licensing and User Capacity for the Cisco UC 560

License Configuration

Description

UC560 (FXO, BRI, or T1E1 model) and 1 x L-UC-PRO-8U=

32 user licenses, 8 supplemental user licenses

UC560 (FXO, BRI, or T1E1 model) and 2 x L-UC-PRO-8U=

40 user licenses, 8 supplemental user licenses

So,  you can upgrade to a UC560 FX0 model or T1/E1 model or hopefully take advantage  of the following Technology Migration Program that was found in the following EOL announcement on the  UC520;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps7293/end_of_life_notice_c51-655215.html

It basically says;

Product Migration Options

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Unified Communications 540 or 560 for Small Business. Information about these products can be found at:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7293/index.html

Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Program (TMP) to trade-in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, customers should work with their Cisco Partner or Cisco account team. Cisco Partners can find additional TMP information on Partner Central athttp://www.cisco.com/web/partners/pr11/incentive/tmp/index.html

Thanks a lot David for your response. It´s very helpful.

I think upgrading to UC560 is the rigth choice. I have a couple of additional questions: may I reuse the VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 - 1-Port RJ-48 Multiflex Trunk - T1/E1 on the UC560?

The UC560 doesnt have a Wireless embeded model like my UC520W-8U-4FXO-K9. What is your recomendation regarding the WLAN feature.

Thanks in advance.

Gustavo.
