I have seen this behaviour when someone is testing the VPN connection of the SPA 525G when still connected locally to the UC is this true in your case. If so please connect the VPN from network differrent from the one of UC.

EDIT: If the phone is connected remotely please check if the ephone has "mtp" setting if not please add it and test.
I hadd this problem during testing. I originally put the phone basically back to back with the UC540s WAN (with a fake IP) so the phone was essentially still on the same network as the UC (albeit external).
I read Alexander's post and slapped a linksys router between the phone an dthe WAN and everything works great.
