3DES vs. AES

Hi Sir,

My customer has been complaining of slow performance of remote-access VPN over wireless broadband network. They should be using Cisco VPN clients and PIX/VPN Concentrator, though I'm not very certain.

When they change the encryption from 3DES to AES, performance seems to improve.

Can you show me any whitepaper that discusses 3DES vs. AES? I'm interested to understand the comparison between the two algorithms in terms of performance and security.

Thank you.

B.Rgds,

Lim TS

Re: 3DES vs. AES

Lim,

Please look at the URL given above. the resource consumption for AES is low but for 3DES is medium. Thats the reason you see a performance improvement.

If you need to learn more about DES and AES, then my advise would be to look into RFC 1851 and RFC 3268.

Hope this answers your questions.
