a set of access-list statements

For a set of access-list statements such as

access-list id_x permit ...

access-list id_x permit ...

access-list id_x permit ...

This id_x, sometimes, it must be the same name; while others, it can be different names.

Under what circumstances or for what usage, it must kept the same for a set of access-list statements?

Thanks to help

Re: a set of access-list statements

The names can be different if you want to block a set of address or if you want seperate route to be taken by other router.

Re: a set of access-list statements

You keep it the same, when you want to add multiple acl statements matching different networks or different protocols (ports). Every line that refers to the same name "id_x" belong to the same access-list. Note that ACLs could be used for filtering traffic, as well as matching traffic for tools such as QOS, NAT etc.
