about the support for window 64 bit Vista and window 7 by Cisco VPN client

I am using the Window OS "64bit Windows Vista" and "Windows 7"

I have checked the Cisco's latest VPN client version which is version 5.0.05.0290

However, it seems taht for all Windows operating systems, only 32-bit platforms are supported by Cisco.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/vpn_client/cisco_vpn_client/vpn_client500_501/release/notes/51client.pdf

So if i need to use Cisco VPN Client for Window 7 or Vista 64bit... is there a Cisco VPN client that can support it? if not, when will be the date for the release of a version that can support window 7 and Vista 64-bit... any work around?

Thanks

Rachel

For x64 (64-bit) Windows support, you must utilize Cisco's next-generation Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.

Hi, this is not the answer we like to hear.

The vpn-client uses IPSEC but any-connect will use ssl. Thats not the same security level.

And we have another reason to use the vpn-client: we can start a secure connection before logon.

So again the question: when will Cisco release 64-bit VPN-Client with IPSEC

I agree with Wolf. Even though we recommend against our users purchasing 64 bit OS machines they still do .

We recently again complained to our reseller about Cisco inaction on this subject.

We do have a kluge fix involving virtual machines on the 64 bit box.

Hi

Actually VPN Client 5.0.06.0110 supports Windows 7 (32-Bit).

Cisco says:

1) The Cisco VPN Client will never support 64 Bit.
2) AnyConnect will be the only VPN client for the future.
3) Estimated mid 2010 the AnyConnect Client will be IPSec-able, too.

4) Estimated end 2010 the Cisco VPN Client will "die".

I would suggest that you give ShrewSoft a shot.  It is an IPSEC VPN client that is compatible with 64-bit Windows distributions and it's free to use.  While the configuration is not as straight forward as the Cisco IPSEC client, it is far more robust.

NCP and Greenbow also offer IPSEC VPN clients for a fee.
