The Characteristics Table in the ASA 5500 Data Sheet describes different VPN throughput values depending on the platform: For the ASA5540 states a throughput of up to 325 Mbps for 3DES/AES VPN.
My question is if 325 Mbps is the maximum rating for the 3DES/AES VPN encryption/decryption flow only , or it also includes the overhead due to Ethernet and IP headers ?
In other words: In an ASA 5540 gigabit interface dedicated to VPN traffic only, can i expect up to 325 mbps traffic load? Or the resulting maximum traffic in the physical ethernet will be higher than this due to the presence of MAC & L3 headers?
