Intermittent response to the ping/aplications for a remote VPN site

Hi,

We have a remote site which conencts through a GRE/IPSEC tunnel with our datacenter. We are having troubles with the local machnes accessing the datacenter applications (most of them are EBS, database related). The problem is that the connectivity becomes avaiable sometimes and suddenly it becomes unavailable for the users. Do you think it could be related, somehow, with the MTU size? The tunnel interface shows that the MTU size us 1514 bytes for the tunnel. If we consider that this problem is related to MTU, should it pose problems time to time or do not connect at all.. Please help.

Thanks and regards,

Gaurav

Re: Intermittent response to the ping/aplications for a remote V

It could happen sometimes when the database application is sending large packets, hence it's intermittently failing.

You can configure "ip tcp adjust-mss 1300" on your LAN interface (interface closer to the database server) so the end host can negotiate a smaller MTU size.
