PIX Licensing Question

Hi - new to PIX and I am just trying to figure out how licensing works. Is it a bin file that is uploaded to the firewall or what?

The reason I am asking is that I am contemplating purchasing a used firewall to train on and want to make sure that any licensing that comes with it isn't wiped out if I install a new IOS or reset the config etc.

thanks

Re: PIX Licensing Question

Hi,

The licences are not IOS dependant and cannot be erased. They are stored in flash, so i guess replacing the flash will remove the licences, but anyway a licence is bound to a serial number, so they cannot be reused.

You can check the licenses with the command "sh version".

To add a new licence (3des/aes or Unrestricted) use "activation key" command.

Please rate if this helped.

Regards,

Daniel
