Hi, all sorry for such a simple question. But im hoping that someone could just solidify what i *think I already understand.

To my understanding Protocol 50, has been defined to me as (ESP). Others reference protocol 50 as (GRE). Is it defined as a combination of both?

Question: What is protocol 50...(ESP), or (GRE)...

Thanks!

esp is 50, ah is 51, gre is 47.

those are ip protocol numbers. udp is 17, tcp is 6.

if you have a unix box handy, take a look at /etc/protocols.

the one on windows boxen is terrible, it hasn't been updated for years it looks.

Hi,

If you are in doubt for these type of questions you should always check http://www.iana.org (IANA is the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and always has the current registered numbers).

Here´s the link to protocol-numbers:

http://www.iana.org/assignments/protocol-numbers

Kind regards,

Leo
