I am implementing WEBVPN functionality on a ASA5510, software version 7.2(1). I ran into a problem with Application Access. When configuring Port Forwarding, the remote server name, is automatically translated to an IP address. Because the application on the remote-device (laptop) is using DNS-names, a connection could not be established. Example:
port-forward Mainframe 23 prod.company.com 23
is translated to
port-forward Mainframe telnet 10.111.0.29 telnet
When I configure a port-forward with a fake DNS name, which can?t be resolved through DNS, the name is used. When starting the application access application on the remote computer, the entry is added to the hostfile as expected.
Is there a way to prevent that the ASA is converting the DNS-name to an IP Address or is there another way let locally installed applications use DNS names?
